Inspired by Mel Robbins’ “Let Them” concept.

Life can feel busy and loud. People have opinions. Schedules change. Texts get missed. That’s a lot. Here’s one idea that can make each day lighter. It comes from a simple mindset popularized by Mel Robbins called “Let Them.” For more on her work, look up Mel Robbins’ talks, books, and posts about “Let Them.”

What “Let Them” Means (in plain language)

“Let Them” means we stop trying to control what other people do. If someone is late… let them. If a friend doesn’t text back… let them. If a family member says, “You should do it my way”… let them. You don’t have to like it. But you also don’t have to chase, fix, or argue. You can choose what you will do next.

Why this helps

  • It saves your energy.

  • It lowers stress in your body.

  • It gives you time to focus on your goals: your job, your apartment, your hobbies, your health.

At Bella Stella, we believe in dignity, love, and family spirit. “Let Them” fits this. It respects other people’s choices and protects your peace.

“Let Them” + Supported Living: Real-Life Moments

Roommate leaves dishes out. Let them. You choose: “I’ll wash my dishes now. Let’s plan a dish time after dinner.”You set a plan, not a fight.

Support staff suggests a new routine. Let them share ideas. You choose: “Thanks. I want to try it for one week. Then we’ll review.”You keep control of your plan.

Family member pressures you to attend a big party. Let them invite. You choose: “Large crowds are hard for me. I’ll come for 30 minutes, then take a break. ”You honor your sensory needs.

Friend stops replying. Let them be quiet. You choose: “I’ll send one kind message and move on with my day. ”You protect your heart and time.

A 3-Step Tool You Can Use Anywhere

  1. Stop. Pause. Put your hand on your chest.

  2. Breathe. In for 4 seconds. Out for 6. Twice.

  3. Choose. Ask: “What is one calm action I can take now?”

Examples of calm actions:

  • Send one clear text.

  • Add the issue to your next Service Planning Meeting agenda.

  • Take a short walk.

  • Put on headphones and listen to music.

  • Set a timer and clean for 10 minutes.

“Let Them” doesn’t mean “Let Everything Slide”

You still deserve safety, respect, and services. If something breaks your boundaries, speak up.

Simple scripts:

  • “I’m not available for that.”

  • “Please talk to me in a calm voice.”

  • “I need a quiet space now.”

  • “Let’s add this to my plan with my team.”

If you need help, your Bella Stella Community team can support you with coaching, communication practice, and updates to your goals.

“Let Them”…and Let Me

Try this: each morning say, “Let them do them. Let me do me. ”Then choose one “me” action:

  • Make your bed.

  • Drink water.

  • Review your schedule.

  • Send one message to someone who does support you.
